 Good News

Here is some good news just in time for the weekend.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A fruity cocktail may not only be fun to drink but may count as health food, U.S. and Thai researchers said on Thursday.

Adding ethanol -- the type of alcohol found in rum, vodka, tequila and other spirits -- boosted the antioxidant nutrients in strawberries and blackberries, the researchers found.

Any colored fruit might be made even more healthful with the addition of a splash of alcohol, they report in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture.

They were exploring ways to help keep strawberries fresh during storage. Treating the berries with alcohol increased in antioxidant capacity and free radical scavenging activity, they found.

Any colored fruit or vegetable is rich in antioxidants, which are chemicals that can cancel out the cell-damaging effects of compounds called free radicals.

Berries, for instance, contain compounds known as polyphenols and anthocyanins. People who eat more of these fruits and vegetables have a documented lower risk of cancer, heart disease and some neurological diseases.

The study did not address whether adding a little cocktail umbrella enhanced the effects.

So do I want a  strawberry daiquiri or a strawberry margarita?  Its a tough decision, which would you chose?

 Impeachment

A28

Congressman Dennis Kucinich has now filed his three articles of impeachment against Dick Cheney, and the Ohio Democrat is clearly serious about the holding the vice president to account for:

manipulating intelligence to fabricate a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction
manipulating intelligence to fabricate a relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda,
and openly threatened aggression against Iran absent any real threat to the the United States.

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- The Vermont House will take up a resolution calling for President George W. Bush's and Vice President Dick Cheney's impeachment.

The Senate passed a resolution last week that said the administration's conduct in the Iraq war and domestic issues warranted a congressional investigation into impeachment.

 My Daughter Sage

A sage someone who has wisdom that comes with age and experience

My daughter’s nickname is Sage, she got it from the X Files character with perfect memory.

The name suits her because she is wise beyond her years mostly because of all she has been through in her short life.

She was with me through a messy divorce and various boyfriends until I finally settled down. For awhile we were so poor that we could only afford meat once a week and all our clothes came from the second hand store. There was that Christmas when we got a 12 inch tree from the dollar store.

Then I got sick and was in and out of the hospital, and she was sent to stay with various relatives.

Recently she is facing the realization that her father, whom she adored as a little girl, is not the man she thought he was. I have never bad mouthed him to her, but now that she is becoming a young woman she has found out on her own. Basically he is very selfish and inconsiderate. Its not that he doesn’t love her, he just always puts himself first and is not willing to make any sacrifices for her.

There comes a day when we grew up and realize that our parents are not perfect, they are just human. Its such a sad day.
