A Life Examined

 On My Way Back

I finally got home from the hospital on Thursday afternoon. Three weeks is way too long, I was beginning to get very depressed and irritated, I couldn't hold down food, and developed a backache from lying in bed for so long.

I turned out I had developed a nasty infection, I don't think I have ever felt that bad before in my whole life. I finally convinced my doctors (a whole team) that I would recover much better in my own home.

The first thing I did when I got home was to take a nap without any interruption. Then I ate a huge meal, which was more than I had eaten the whole 3 weeks in the hospital. Its so good to be home.

The pain in pretty much gone now, I spent the weekend napping, watching tv, and urinating, and on Sunday I managed to take a shower all by myself.

I am still very weak, and am having some trouble with my appetite and holding down food, but I am getting better every day. I still have to go up to the clinic 3 times a week so they can cheek my bloods levels, I have to leave at 5:30 in the morning and don't get back until almost 2, so that takes up my whole day.

My goals for this week it to check my email, pay my bills, and try to put my home back in order, for some reason there seems to be "stuff" lying about all over the place, I am not sure what it is or where it came from.

Thank you all for your good wishes, your messages brought tears to my eyes.

I will be around to visit blogs and catch up with you all soon

 My New Kidney

The kidney was a perfect match for me. I went into the hospital at 3 am and had the surgery on Friday at 1:00 pm. It took 6 hours and I lost a lot of blood but it was a success.

The new kidney started working right away as soon as they hooked it up in the operating room, and I have been urinating like crazy.

I have about a dozen medication to take twice a day but so far I am not having any side effects from them.

I was in ICU for 2 days, then transfered to a regular room and came home on Wed evening.

I am very sore but able to walk slowly and am a little spaced out on pain killers.

This morning I had to go to the clinic for blood work and to see the doctor. After they checked my bloodwork they called to tell me to come back into the hospital because they need to give me IV fluids, and some of my bloodwork is out of whack. But they said not to worry, that its fairly common.

While on dialysis I had to limit fluids so I am not used to taking in a lot.

So right now I am waiting for them to call back and let me know they have a room for me. I don't know how long I will have to stay. They like to be very careul with transplant patients.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and support, it really means a lot to me.

I'll be back as soon as I can.

 Still waiting

Please the post before this first.

They haven't called yet, my husband has called me twice and each time the phone rang I nearly jumped out of my skin.

I finally had to take a Xanax, so now I am much calmer and can actually sit still so I'll visit some blogs while I am waiting for the phone to ring.

Lastest update: They called and will call back between 2 & 3 am.

 Oh My God

I just got a call from the transplant center, they are getting ready to harvest a kidney that might be a match for me.

After the kidney is removed from the body they will take some tissue from it and place it in a small container containing my blood. Then they wait about 4 hours, if the tissue remains red I will go in for the operation.

If the tissue turns black that means that my antibodies killed it and I can't have the kidney.

This is the second time I got a call like this, the last time was 2 years ago, but that match didn't work.

So right now I need your prayers and positive energy more than ever.

Meanwhile I have to go shave my legs and make sure my house is in order, and try to calm down.
