A Life Examined

 My journey continues
Back to Full Blog

Two weeks after my last post I was back in the hospital for another 10 days, for a urinary tract infection. I was there on my wedding anniversary and on the 4th of July. But now I have been out of the hospital and infection free for 6 weeks.

However I have blood in my urine so after a few visits to the urologist and a number of tests and procedures, I was told that I have kidney stones in my native kidneys, and they can't pass because those kidneys don't work, so the only way to remove them would be by surgery. For now they are going to monitor the situation, if they don't get any bigger or cause infection we can just leave them alone.

I have been seriously depressed, and have spent hours lying on the couch crying. I missed the whole summer, no beach, no pool, no weekend getaways. I thought I would feel much better after the transplant, but I still tire easily and have very little energy.

I haven't been blogging mainly because my husband is usually home all day and he resents it. He doesn't say anything but I know it bothers him because his ex-wife ran off with someone she met over the Internet. But today he will be out for most of the afternoon.

I can't wait until he goes back to work, he likes to keep the house dark and cold, I like it warm and bright. I am not really well enough to do anything fun, so when he is here I just sit around under a blanket and feel sorry for myself.

On the bright side, my sister and her kids came down to visit for a week, I loved having them here, when they left my daughter went with them and spent 2 weeks in PA, where she had a great time.

My son will be down to visit at the end of the month, then he is going back to college, so I am really happy about that.

Gina,

It is fantastic to see that you posted! I'm sure all of us on Blogstream understand your husbands feelings and why you kindly refrained from blogging.

It is good to know that you are home and not in the hospital. I am sorry that you are having some complications. Please try to be patient, though I am sure it is not easy to do. Just follow your doctor's orders.

Take care of yourself and keep us posted when you can.

Hi Katie,
Thank you for the beautiful roses. I haven't been feeling like myself lately, I have been scared and feeling sorry for myself and having too many negative thoughts. I am trying to get back to always having a positive attitude and and appreciating the little things.
I think blogging will help a lot.

Hi Donna,
Hopefully now that my condition is fairly stable, my husband will be out looking for a job, and get one real soon.
And since its been 3 months since the surgery I can finally switch from the clinic doctor back to my regular doctor which is a big relief.

Gina,

I know your husband must have been so worried for you. I'm sure he will find a job soon and things will hopefully return to normal...whatever that is these days. Ha ha!

How nice that you are back to your regular doctor too! See, things just take time, even though we get impatient and want things to happen right now.

You are an inspiration to all of us.

Thinking about you, Gina - - hope you're continuing to heal and that you'll be feeling better soon. What a huge transition for your body to undergo, huh? It just needs time to catch up.

Wishing you all the best.......

Thanks Val,
I think the hardest thing to adjust to is all the medication, but I think my body is finally getting used to it.
I will be over to visit you soon, right now I am getting a little sleepy.

Hi Gina,
Glad you are back for the day, you take it easy and don't over do it. I am sorry you missed the summer but think what a great summer you will have next year. You rest and when you are well you won’t get so tired out, it takes awhile for your body to heal. It isn’t fun resting and taking it easy but it will be worth it and think of all the things you will be able to do and all the fun you are going to have. Keep thinking good thoughts and try to keep your spirits up, you are getting better just takes time. Thank you for saying Hi and I look forward to when you can be on more, you rest we will be here when you come back.

Gina,

I guess it's like anything else, you need to take it one step at a time. Hopefully you will improve at a much faster pace once your body adjusts to all the meds you need to take now. Thanks for letting us know you were still keeping on.

I am really happy to see you get time to blog a little. Your body has been through a lot so you are going to be tired, and depressed, for quite a while. As for the husband thing...I get that! Mine was home for 3 weeks straight becuz of vacation time and he broke his ribs...even when he started back out to work he only goes for a couple days at a time.

My kids won't open any blinds or curtains in the house and I love light, too. However, I am going thru what is called pre-menopause and they complain that the house is freezing and I am still hot. It used to be the other way around.

Just be patient...this summer was kind of a bummer for you but it was also good for you...for one thing. Next summer will be so much better!

Hi, Gina2! I don't feel like I had a summer either. We went fishing at the wharf once but I got tired and came home after an hour. The smoke blanket was very irritating that day, too. I never made it to the beach either - no excuse; I only live 5 minutes from it. I wanted to lug my chair and umbrella then journal or draw for a while. The kids go back to school a week from tomorrow so we still have a little chance, I guess.

Hope you're feeling OK. I'm just achy and for some reason have stuck on about 10 lbs. I haven't gone out walking every day because of the smoke and heat. I want things back to 'normal'.

You take care! Lulublue

Hello Gina, it was so nice to hear from you..I am so glad that maybe
now things will be getting better for you. Recovery is always slow and
sometimes has many setbacks. But someone up above is keeping an eye on
you. I still keep you in my nightly prayers, of which I am a firm
believer of the power of prayer..You are a strong person by nature, Gina
always keep that in mind..you have lots of friends who care about you.
Me included. Will be checking back to see how things are going with
you..

Oh Gina, my husband does'nt care for me to blog either, so I have to wait until he goes to play golf. He just resents it for some strange reason.

Know being depressed is probably the norm for what all you have been thru. Men just don't understand how we work, and I am so glad you had your sister, and now your son will be coming home. My kids always cheer me up when they come home too.

Just hang in there, and soon you'll be up and doing for yourself more.

Praying for you and sending you bunches of hugs and well wishes.....

Love you, Heide

I'm so sorry that you've been feeling ill. Depression will get you too when you are so sick for so long, I know from experience. Try to get some sunshine everyday. Tell you husband you need a little blog therapy. It helps you to talk to your friends. Get rested and get back to your old self. Peace and love, Sharon

PLEASE READ WARNING LABEL in this week's OVERHEARD and SEEN.
This is NOT a JOKE, although it still feels like one to me.
I can't believe that Walmart or any other company can sell us a food service product with lead in it
simply by putting a warning label on the cord that says WASH YOUR HANDS!!!

PLEASE CHECK YOUR OWN HOMES.
Check your children's toys and rooms first.
Check your kitchens and bathrooms next.

You don't really know me but you can take it to the bank that I want you and your children to BE SAFE.

What are the health effects of lead poisoning?
The National Safety Council says:
There are many different health effects associated with elevated blood lead levels. Young children under the age of six are especially vulnerable to lead's harmful health effects, because their brains and central nervous system are still being formed.

For them, even very low levels of exposure can result in:
reduced IQ
learning disabilities
attention deficit disorders
behavioral problems
stunted growth
impaired hearing
kidney damage

At high levels of exposure, a child may become:
mentally retarded
fall into a coma
and even die

Within the last ten years, children have died from lead poisoning in New Hampshire and in Alabama. Lead poisoning has also been associated with juvenile delinquency and criminal behavior.

In adults, lead can:
increase blood pressure
cause fertility problems
nerve disorders
muscle and joint pain
irritability
memory or concentration problems

It takes a significantly greater level of exposure to lead for adults than it does for kids to sustain adverse health effects.

TAKE CARE OF YOU and YOUR FAMILY.
Please pass this along to your friends and family.
